VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital is one of India’s largest and most prestigious central government healthcare institutions, established during the Second World War as an American Army Base Hospital in Delhi.
Prior to this position, she worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology, Govind Ballabh (GB) Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, New Delhi, which is another renowned and Prestigious leading super-speciality tertiary care Hospital in the country.
Before pursuing DM- Neurology, she worked as a Senior Resident under the Guidance of internationally renowned Hepatologist Prof. (Dr). S.K. Sarin, the Founder & Director of The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, which is a Mono-Super-Speciality hospital for Liver and Biliary diseases, the first of its kind in Asia and a WHO Centre.
Dr. Sumirini has authored more than 30 publications in National and International peer-reviewed journals indexed in PubMed Central, SCOPUS, Embase, and DOAJ. Her work includes original research, case reports, and collaborative studies with Padma Shri awardees and renowned Neurologists and Neuro- Surgeons.
She was honoured as a G20 National Awardee (2023) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, under the theme of ‘Sustainable Development’, by the G20 Sherpa of India, Shri. Amitabh Kant, as the chief guest, and K Sanjay Murthy, IAS Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India and Prof. B.S. Murthy, Director of IIT Hyderabad, was selected among thousands of participants across India for their visionary ideas and impact in healthcare.
